Perhaps no other game embodies the true essence of Brandon Cox like the 2006 LSU game. On that hot and brutal Saturday afternoon in Auburn, Alabama at the famed Jordan-Hare Stadium, Brandon Cox electrified the deafening Auburn faithful by providing 2 of the most storied moments in Auburn Football history. The first was his defining moment as a QB. He had played exceptionally well all day against what some claim was the 85 Bears defense reincarnated. They were a big, tough, and rough unit that boasted many NFL picks along the front line and secondary. The crowd was electric, the most concentrated and focused I'd every seen a football crowd. Each play was like life and death with every warm body in the stadium caught up in an emotional whirlwind. A gain of 5 yards was like a long TD run that day. Both defenses were incredibly stingy and the licks were being layed like Jenna Jameson at a rapper convention.
All of a sudden the air got quiet..the clouds stopped moving..smiling faces became looks of despair as Brandon lay motionless on the ground. We all thought the season was over. All the hopes of a bright season down the drain. Then like a Phoenix rising from the ashes...Brandon leaped up and sprinted off the field...waving his arms..igniting the crowd..leaving grown men in tears...displaying that warrior spirit when we needed it the most. That moment defined Brandon as a quarterback. From that moment on, we all learned that the only way Brandon would be off the field was in death.
The other moment was the grit and determination he showed when he mounted the winning drive and capped it off with a gutsy QB sneak. It was the only TD that day and that was the day that secured Brandon's future in the hearts of the Auburn faithful for years to come. A highlight video of that game that includes the winning sneak is included below.
What a magical and joyous day!!
